The Annexe Bike Shed is Insurance approved – saving you money!

”I have now purchased 2 products from Asgard. The 1st was a Metal Bike Shed – The Annexe Model.   This is not cheap at 500 pounds, but has proven its worth already after a recent break in, my house was emptied of everything of any value but the thieves could not get into the bike store – so that’s 7000 pounds less to claim for.  The cost of insuring my bikes was three 300 pounds, so in theory after two years the unit is paid for. The only thing the thieves managed to do was snap off the handle and scratch the paint.

The 2nd unit was a Flexistore Metal Shed. Not as heavy duty as the Annexe bike store (this one is not insurance approved) but – again, more than strong enough for garden tools – Same price at around the 500 pounds mark as the bike store, but three times the size. Again this unit foiled the thieves only a slight dent in the door and tool marks around the lock.   All in all very impressive sheds.  Nice to see a UK business actually STILL in business!”

Sergeant Gavin McCandless of Twickenham Riverside SNT, who is leading the project, says, “Bike security-marking can act as an effective crime deterrent. The small sticker we place on every marked bike is often enough put off would-be thieves. When a lost or stolen bike is found, we can use the unique code we’ve printed on the bike to return it quickly to the owner.”

Top 5 top bike security tips

To help prevent becoming a victim of bike theft, follow these pedal cycle pointers…

 1) Bikes left unlocked in front or back gardens are easy targets, even if they are only left momentarily.  If storing your bike in a garage or a shed, make sure the door has a suitably heavy-duty lock. Last a year, there were a large number of cycles reported stolen in the borough that were taken from sheds that were not under lock and key.
One option is to buy a metal storage unit – such as the Annexe metal bike shed from Asgard which has been LPCB approved due to its high level of security it provides.

Made from tough galvanised steel panels and a unique 5-point locking system, this bike shed will provide excellent high security protection for your bicycle. (Find out more from the Asgard website.)
2) Find something grounded – Lock your bike to something solid that is secured to the ground and is a ‘closed structure’ (i.e., not a post, which bike locks can simply be lifted over the top).
3 Lock both wheels –  Thieves know how to undo bolts and quick-release mechanisms. Lock both wheels at the frame to the stand and remove any quick-release components.
4) Don’t leave locks lying down - Locks resting on the ground can be split apart by thieves with a hammer and cold chisel.
5) Stick with Sold Secure bike locks. Visit the Sold Secure website to see how it rates the security levels of a wide range of bike locks.   Use two ‘Sold Secure’ locks to make your bike hard to steal.
